I have a confession to make. I have lived in the DC area for six years in August, and yet until last week I'd never been to the Capitol Hill area. Crazy huh? Well, luckily this horrible sin of neglect has now been rectified. I was invited to a networking happy hour event last week at Ambar Balkan Cuisine. Ambar is a unique restaurant to check out with interesting decor, drinks and food dishes. If you have an adventurous palate you should definitely go and try it out.
After my husband and I decided to go for a walk to find a place where we could eat outdoors and enjoy the beautiful evening. We settled on this lovely Italian restaurant that served gluten free pasta. Lavagna offers a variety of delicious sounding dishes, all made with homemade pasta on the premises and farm fresh ingredients. Every ingredient they use comes from a local farm or is made from scratch in their own kitchen. This is definitely a restaurant that promotes eating real in a processed world, which always makes me happy to find. They also graciously offer a substitution of gluten free pasta for any of the dishes on the menu. I got a tasty basil pesto with grilled chicken. Great texture and delicious pesto sauce. We got the added bonus of getting to watch the preservation crew stop by and water the plant on the top of the light pole on the sidewalk in front of our table. Surprisingly quite the process with six foot watering cans and such. Quite interesting to watch. Overall, we had a wonderful night and I'd definitely suggest not only checking out the Capitol Hill area, but also stopping in at this delicious Italian restaurant.
