Looking for a delicious gluten free Italian meal that is also reasonably priced? Bertucci's has a gluten free menu comprised of a variety of Italian starters, sharing salads, meat and fish entrees and chocolate desserts. Unfortunately, they do not have gluten free pizza yet, but the entrees they do have are quite delicious. I had a Roasted Eggplant Pomodoro that was to die for! The entrees even come with your choice of soup or salad. So next time you're looking for a casual Italian meal out, check out your local Bertucci's.

Maple Avenue Restaurant is an eclectic American cuisine restaurant that blends and experiments with flavors from Latin America, France and Asia. With a constantly rotating menu it is a surprise every time and there's always something new to try. Service is fantastic and the chef is more than willing to cater to the gluten free population. Their menu even identifies all of their gluten free offerings and is constantly evolving to enhance the taste. Located in Vienna this restaurant is small and cozy and it's recommended that you get a reservation first before going. If you're up in the area I strongly suggest checking it out. Their brunch is to die for and even has bottomless mimosas, bloody marys, and pointsettas. I don't know about you, but that's incentive enough for me right there ;) Enjoy!

If you like American dining in a laid-back casual atmosphere you need to check out Joe Theismann's. I enjoyed a refreshing gluten free cider and a great burger and fries on the best gluten free bun I've ever had. I also can say Joe Theismann's employs some of the most friendly and attentive staff I've ever experienced at a restaurant. From a waiter who never allowed our glasses to get less than half full, to a manager who came over to have a delightful conversation with us at our table, we felt like we were the only people in the place. So I've been listening to all the hype lately about cutting back on my dairy intake. I decided to make some of the easy switches by substituting where I can. I've been using almond milk in my coffee etc, and then this week I was actually in Trader Joe's and saw that they have a good selection of coconut milk items. I'd heard that coconut milk was a better substitute for milk than the nut milks because of its consistency. Where almond milk can be more watery, coconut milk has a more similar thicker consistency and is especially better to use as a substitute while baking. I picked up this coconut milk yogurt and was quite excited to find that it was actually delicious! And it was even more filling than a regular yogurt! I like that it also satisfied my sweet tooth cravings as well, with just the faintest hint of a sugary taste. Definitely a healthier alternative to a candy bar.
In doing more research I found even more uses for coconut milk than being a healthy alternative to milk. It can be used as a makeup remover. I'm sure a less harsh option than our usual alcohol based removers. And it can moisten your skin and treat wrinkles in the process! It treats sunburns, which makes sense coming from the tropical climates it does. It also works as a great hair conditioner. Who would have thought that the coconut could be so multi -faceted? It not only packs a good punch in those hard nuts nutrition wise, it also can function as its own mini day spa. So next time you see a coconut milk option, you might want to pick it up to try yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed :)
Top Five Reasons Why You Should Switch to Coconut Oil:
1. It's good for the Immune System: Possessing many of the good fats, acids, bacterias, and antiviral properties we need, coconut oil strengthens the immune system. There have been studies that have shown coconut oil to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, the common cold, and even HIV. How about that for buffering the immune system?
2. It's good for Weight Loss: Coconut oil contains both medium and short chain fatty acids that help in taking off excess weight. These acids also break down and are easy to digest and aid the functioning of the thyroid and balance the enzymes in your body. It also boosts your metabolism taking stress off your pancreas so you can burn energy faster and which aids in your losing weight.
3. It's good for Digestion: The primary use for coconut oil is as a cooking oil. The saturated fats in this oil have microbial properties that help deal with various bacteria, fungi, etc that usually cause indigestion and irritable bowel syndromes.
There are so many other great benefits from using coconut oil that I can't possibly list them all. It is great for hair and skin care. It helps the liver and heart. It's been a proven aid to healing cancer patients. It helps the kidney and pancreas. It strengthens your bones. It lessens stress. As you can see the benefits go on and on. Don't believe me, do some research yourself.
All I can say is that it is an easy and effective switch to make in your daily diets. Next time you're cooking just reach for the coconut oil instead of the olive or vegetable oil. Start doing this for a week or two and see if there's not a new bounce in your step. An added bonus? It tastes great too ;)
