I'm happy to report that ALL of the Great American restaurants have gluten-free menus! This is interesting news because for some reason they do not advertise this information. And not only do they have gluten- free menus, their gluten-free menus are quite large and even have options that are not on the regular menus! So, we're even spoiled :)

Disclaimer: Make sure you always still ask about preparation and safety because they will still say that they cannot guarantee zero potential of cross-contamination, but I've always found them to be careful and knowledgeable, and I've never had a bad experience or gotten sick at one of their restaurants.
Fast Casual dining is becoming the most popular way to dine. More and more chains are joining the industry and numbers show their quick order and eat options meet society demands.
But the gluten-free population often fears it's too difficult to eat on the go. No worries, I've compiled a list below that proves otherwise.
All of these places have locations in the DC area and are gluten-free friendly with a reputation for taking the necessary precautions to prep celiac orders safely. Always make sure to double check and ask the necessary safety questions though.
Chipotle- Mexican burrito bowl heaven! Just ask for them to change their gloves and grab fresh ingredients from the back before serving you to prevent cross-contamination.
Noodles and Company- American, Asian and Italian noodle dishes. Alert them that it is an allergy order and they will use a fresh pan free from cross-contamination and use rice, gluten-free or zucchini noodles.
Five Guys- Burgers and Fries. They have a dedicated fryer (Always make sure it is working that day) and will prepare your burger in a lettuce wrap or bowl for you.
Chick-Fil-A- They have a dedicated fryer (Always make sure it is working that day) and grilled chicken nuggets and sandwiches. They even offer gluten-free buns that arrive still sealed in their packaging.
Elevation Burger- Burgers and Fries. They have a dedicated fryer (Always make sure it is working that day) and will prepare your burger in a lettuce wrap or bowl for you.
CAVA- Mediterranean grain and salad bowls. Just ask for them to change their gloves and grab fresh ingredients from the back before serving you to prevent cross-contamination.
Chopt- Salad bowls. Just ask for them to change their gloves and grab fresh ingredients from the back before serving you to prevent cross-contamination.
Little Beet-Vegetable and Salad bowls. Everything is gluten-free!!
Sweetgreen- Salad bowls. Just ask for them to change their gloves and grab fresh ingredients from the back before serving you to prevent cross-contamination.
Honeygrow- Vegetable Stir-Fries. Alert them that it is an allergy order and they will use a fresh pan free from cross-contamination and use gluten-free ingredients.
Beefsteak Vegetables- Vegetables served every way imaginable! Just ask for them to change their gloves and grab fresh ingredients from the back before serving you to prevent cross-contamination.
Zoe's Kitchen- Mediterranean. Alert them that it is an allergy order and they will use a fresh pan free from cross-contamination and use gluten-free ingredients.
McAlister's Deli- Salads and stuffed potatoes. Alert them that it is an allergy order and ask for them to change their gloves and grab fresh ingredients before prepping your order to prevent cross-contamination.
Moe's Southwest Grill- Tex-Mex salads and burrito bowls. Just ask for them to change their gloves and grab fresh ingredients from the back before serving you to prevent cross-contamination.
Jason's Deli- I have never seen a sandwich place that tries so hard to take gluten-cross-contamination seriously. They will not guarantee there's no gluten- but, I think they're pretty darn close. Check out their allergy practices in the link attached. They offer gluten-free bread and sides.
Hope this helps and please let me know of any more I missed! Thanks!

I was recently approached and asked about where I eat in the Burke/Springfield area. My answer is- All Over! There are SOO many places coming out with gluten-free menus now. Especially, if you head over to the Fairfax or Springfield areas there are TONS of gluten-free options available. There's also even a few gluten-free friendly places FINALLY in the Burke area itself, although they are still mainly fast food places like Chipotle, CAVA and Chick-Fil-A. For this particular post though, I'm only including actual sit down restaurants. Here are a few of my favorites
Mosaic District- I have long said the Mosaic District is GF paradise. They just keep getting better and better with gluten-free offerings. These restaurants all have GF menus available.

Rise Bakery is DC's only 100% gluten-free bakery. Located in Adams Morgam, they offer a variety of tasty bread products like biscuits and challah and complement them with savory sandwich offerings. Each item they offer is better than the next. Seriously, they have ham and cheese stuffed croissants, chocolate eclairs the size of your head and bagels that actually taste like bagels! Rise also has an abundant selection of pastries and sweets and will create made to order cakes with advance notice. Make sure you check them out!
For those not in the Adams Morgan area regularly, they will ship products and are also available in select Whole Foods and Glen's Garden Markets in the DC metro area. Enjoy!
